These crosses just like I have here on the page. And I want to just introduce you to myself. As I said, I’m, I’m pastor Kevin, I’m the founder and executive director of global hope India.

Uh, I’ve been able to be a part of global hope India for the last 10 years. And I’m very grateful for this opportunity. I want to share with you some of my backstory and just go back to. To identify two halves of my life. I grew up in a rural family, poor family, broken dysfunctional family in North Carolina, uh, here, where I’m broadcasting from.

Uh, my parents love me. We had a lot of glove and our. But we really didn’t have a lot of sense of God’s presence in our home. Uh, I did take Jesus only for salvation whenever I was 10 years old. And I basically was told that I’d done everything I needed to do to be a Christian at that time. My parents’ marriage fell apart whenever I was 12.

And, uh, when I, when I was 17, I was not really walking with the Lord. I, no one had ever discipled me about God’s presence and the benefit of walking in his. Living in his presence on a daily basis. And, um, and so I remember going to a gospel meeting with one of my friends and I prayed God, if there’s more to you than I realized, I want to know it.

And so God began to really give me a hunger for the word. And I started reading the Bible instead of going out and partying with my friends and with them for months. This was August of my senior year in high school. And by December, I had began experiencing God’s call to full-time Christian ministry.

And, um, so I went from wanting to drop out of high school to prepare him for college. God began to work and just transform me from the inside out. I went to college and then started working in student minister. And, uh, my wife and I got married in college. Uh, her name is Shelley and over the next 10 years, we had three children.

Three years later, we had our son Zach, and then three years after that, our daughter called. And then three years after that we had our daughter Kaylee. So now I’m 30 years old. And because of some of the baggage in my childhood, I really found myself in a very miserable place. As a believer, as a Christian, I had been serving for three years.

With a, um, with a new church and our community that I had, my family had moved to the Raleigh area to help start this church. I was working in this church plant. We had started it from scratch and it built up to about a hundred people. And then the third year, uh, that church voted to dismiss me as their pastor and.

So broken. I felt so betrayed by God. I felt hurt by those people who had voted to dismiss me as their pastor. Uh, there had been no sexual impropriety, no mismanagement of. But I was a insane workaholic for God. My 50 hour week work week went to 60, went to 70, went to 80. I literally thought God wanted me to do something great for him.

And I passionately loved the Lord and I was, I was pursuing so much good things in my life I wanted, I wanted past. I wanted peace. God’s power, God’s peace. I wanted success in the church. Um, I wanted, I wanted impact for the kingdom great things, but, um, after that two months later, God took me on my very first trip to.

And that was a life-changing experience. Uh, if you look there on the zoom call, you’ll see pastor Raja. I met him on my first trip to India. Yeah, pastor I’m so blessed, uh, to know you and be known by you. Um, we met on my very first trip to India and it was life-changing. That was the first half of my life.

Um, I was in bondage to the fear of failure and I really struggled to, to understand that God was not calling me to do something great for him. He was already great. And that my purpose for living was for him was, was his presence. When I went to India, I saw the presence of God. Like I had not witnessed in the us before.

Not anyone’s fault, but my own. But when I went to India, I saw churches that did not have bulletins. They didn’t have budgets, but they fervently prayed for the presence of God. And you could sense his presence back 22 years ago, when I went to India, there was no emergency call system. And if a baby got.

That church better pray or that baby’s going to die. And so those miracles that were happening all across the church, I met orphans on my first trip to India. Now I’m a father with three small kids. At this time. I met children my children’s age and they didn’t have sandals on and they didn’t have toothbrushes, but if they knew the fear of the Lord and had been raised in his presence, they exhibited so much.

And I wanted that for my children. I prayed that God would let me take all three of my kids to see his work in India. And so I went back three years later and three years later, but I want to go back to that first trip on the plane ride back. God did something in my heart that still impacts me today.

And I remember taking my journal while. Just blank piece of paper. And I outlined the shape of a cross. And in that first cross, I just began riding the holy spirit, brought things to mind that I was pursuing as a believer, as a minister of the gospel. Uh, again, I was pursuing impact for the kingdom. I was pursuing the peace of God.

I was pursuing the power of God. I was pursuing good things. I was pursuing so much. Um, strategy and wisdom and, and, and I wanted, I w I felt insecure. So there was even parts that I needed. I needed income. I needed to know that my family would be provided for a lot of good things that I was pursuing. And then the holy spirit had me draw out another shape of a cross.

And across that I wrote the presence of God. And that day on that plane ride back from it. I committed before the Lord that from that day forward, I was going to passionately pursue the presence of God first and foremost in my life. Now I don’t share that to say I am perfect and I’ve, I’ve done things perfect, but there is literally 200.

Uh, my life, I went from bondage and the, the fear of failure to end this last 20 years, I’ve watched God do so many miracles for us and through us like miracles, like what you read about and the feeding of the multitude. I wrote about those in my book. But even global hub, India is a miracle. My parents never held a passport.

They never left the United States. And by the grace of God, I’ve been to India over 50 times, I flown over a million miles to 27 different countries. And, uh, and global hope India has been able to take a thousand people to serve in short-term mission trips over in India. And it’s just been the grace of God.

But it’s been so much more than this little boy from a rural area in North Carolina could’ve ever achieved and it’s still happening. And I wrote about that in my book, audacious generosity. But today I want to share with you this message. Of encountering God. And I really want to take us into Exodus chapter 33.

And I want us just to look at one of the first encounters with God. Now, obviously Adam and Eve encounter God, but this is, this is Moses’s encounter with God. And I want us to just see here, Exodus chapter 33 verses one through 23. Um, then the Lord said to Moses. Leave this place, leave this place and you and the people you brought up out of Egypt and go to a land that I swore, um, that I promised to give to you.

Um, so God says to Moses. To go up to the land. I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob say, and I will give it to you and your descendants. I will send, I want you to just look at, at the generosity of God that we see here in this encounter with him, I will see an angels before you, I will drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Pez rites, the Hivites and the jazz, uh, you side.

Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey, but I will not go with you because you are stiff neck people, and I might destroy you on the way. And I love how God really reminds us that we need to be humbled before him, in order to encounter him. Let’s move to verse 12. Moses said to the Lord, You have been telling me late these people, but you have not.

Let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, I know you by name and you have found favor with me. If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways. And right there is a very important prayer. Every one of us need to be praying, um, in front of all mighty God, teach me your way. And then it says, so the Lord reply.

I mean, so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people. The Lord replied, my presence will go with you and I will give you rest. Then Moses said to him, if your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from.

How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and what, and with the people, unless you go with. What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth. And the Lord said to Moses, I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you. And I know you by name, then Moses said, so show me your glory.

And the Lord said, I cause my goodness to pass in front of you. And I will proclaim my name. The Lord and your presence. I will have mercy on whom I have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion, but he said, you cannot see my face for no one may see me. Then the Lord said there is a place near me where you may stand on the rock.

When my glory passes by, I will put you on the cleft of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by then I will remove my hand and you will see my back, but my face must not be seen. And that’s Exodus 33. And so when Moses saw the Lord, what he saw was the. The goodness of God. And we see that part of God’s goodness, is that Moses heard God’s voice.

Do you experience the goodness of God in your life? Do you hear his voice? One of the most good parts of encountering God is for you and I, to be able to hear the voice of God and our life guide. Gave Moses through his voice. I reminder of his covenant of his promises of his provisions, of his protection.

All of that is good, but it began with Moses hearing the voice of God we see here in this encounter, that if it comes from God, then it’s going to be good because God has given us his oath, his promises. His protection, but then we see the character of God that backs up his goodness that God is not evil and cannot do evil.

The Bible defines God’s goodness in his character and in his actions guide can only be and do good. So if it’s coming from God, it has to be good. And so do you need God’s goodness. Well, I’m confident. The answer is yes. Whether we want to admit it or not, we need God’s goodness, but I want you to begin to see something about the ways of God Moses said, teach me your ways.

Well, there is a principle happening. Here in this encounter with Moses, because I want you to remember that God told Moses, take these people. So Moses, this encounter with God was not just for Moses. Now, Moses needed to pursue the presence of God, but it, but God is so much bigger than just what Moses needs.

Guide was giving to Moses, not only goodness for Moses, there’s plenty of God’s goodness to go around. And so Moses had to take action and start giving the goodness of God. And so one of the things that we, I wanted to just bring out in this message is God wants us to receive and experience. But at the same time, be thinking of giving what comes from him.

Do you give God’s goodness. See, I want to break the barrier here. Whenever it comes to generosity. So often we think of generosity in the context of money and it can impact money, but I promise you if generosity does not happen in your spirit and your character and in your actions. It impacting your money will not make any eternal difference.

God showed Moses God and he showed him that he was good. And so do you need and receive experience the goodness of God? And do you give, look at this verse, Luke 12 says when someone has been given much, much will be required in return. And when someone has been entrusted with much even more will be required, do you see that?

I want you to take note of that because sometimes we think that verse means. And, and it’s all about treasures and things like that, and it can impact money, but I’m promising you. If, if we have received the goodness of God, we have a requirement on us to give the goodness of God. The second thing Moses saw was the name.

He encountered God, and he encountered the name of God when God said to Moses. The Lord, the Lord, and in the Hebrew, the word is Jehovah, which means as a praying being it, it is. It is not necessarily like my name’s Kevin, it’s not a name in that respect. It is describing that God is perfection, that he is sacred, that he is significant that he is self existent.

He’s independent. God actually refers to himself as I am. That is what Moses began to encounter, um, with, with that. So the Hebrew word Jehovah implies that God is eternal. He always was and is, and ever will be. He is unchangeable and always the same. And that is good news when you and I are needing comfort when we’re needing the power of God, when we’re needing the peace of God and our life.

Remember if it comes from God, it’s going to be good. And if he bet he backs it up with his character, with his actions, we need the encounter of God moment by moment in our lives. So look at the name of God. Do you need the name of God? We pray in Jesus name. We say in the name of Jesus, be billed in the name of Jesus.

Let that storm in your mind. Be at peace. We need the name of God. Now, Moses did not have the gospels like you. And I have that. Tell us the story of Jesus dying on a cross for our sin. Now we know the name of Jesus. We can, we can pray in Jesus name. We can’t cast out demons in Jesus’ name. Do you give the name of God?

Do you on a regular basis point people to the character and the actions of God. Again, look at the reminder. And Luke, if someone has been given much, if you’ve benefited from the name of God, much will be required in return. And when someone has been trusted with much, you’ve been entrusted with the name of God even more will be required.

And so the encounter with God for Moses was not just for himself. It was for the people and your mind and your encounter with God is not just for us. Yes. We have an obligation before God to passionately pursue his presence, but the benefit of encountering him goes way beyond us. And so will we give out what we have received and experience from.

The next thing Moses encountered was his mercy, the mercy of God. And at its core mercy, his forgiveness God’s mercy means his pity, his compassion, his kindness toward people, his patience and action. So do you need God’s mercy? Well, the answer is an overwhelming. Yes. I need his mercies. You need his mercies.

We all need the mercy of God. We need forgiveness of our sin. But again, if you, and I think that generosity is just about when we open up our wallet or when we open up our bank accounts, then we will totally miss the character of God. I want you to understand when Moses asked God, show me your. We’re talking about the richest person in the universe, and God did not go and take Moses and say, I want you to see all my assets.

I want you to see my money. I want you to see all the stock, storerooms and heaven with all of these blessings, for the people of God. What Moses saw was goodness, the name of guide mercy. Do you need God’s mercy. And do you give God’s mercy? Mercy is a value, not just in receiving and experiencing, but in giving your path.

My path to audacious generosity is getting. The goodness of God, are we good? And our character and in our actions, are we giving people the name of God, the character of God are we giving mercy? And then the final thing that, that Moses encountered was the compassion of God and compassion is to suffer.

Jesus is really where we began to see we’re going into the lent season. Now we’re in just a few weeks. We’ll be celebrating the resurrection of our Lord and the Easter holiday. And this is where we see one of the greatest demonstrations of compassion, but Jesus came and he put the deity of God and human skin.

And. And he felt the pain that we feel, the suffering that we suffer, the weakness that we have in a broken world. And he made himself evident in his presence among us. Compassion means someone else’s heartbreak becomes your heartbreak and God’s heart breaks when your heart breaks and our hearts should break when his heart breaks, another suffering becomes our second.

But this is of little value. If we only experience and receive compassion without giving. And so I want you to understand from the very beginning, God wants us to encounter him passionately, pursue his presence in our life, but it’s not just for our benefit. What about other. There are still 3 billion people on planet earth that have limited to no access to hear about Jesus who will have compassion for these people far from God who will show them mercy.

How will they ever see the goodness of God? If we aren’t showing people the goodness of God, and yes, it will take financial resources to finish the task of the great commission. But that is of no value. If we are not showing people an authentic encounter with God, that includes his goodness. Some, sometimes we want to encounter God.

So he’ll pay our bills. I mean, when we’re really honest, we won’t guide because we want his resources. We want his finances. We want one of those cattles on a thousand Hills to be butchered on our backs. We won’t the supply out of the store rooms of heaven for you and for me, but will we, will we desire the compassion, the mercy, the name, the goodness of God.

Look again at Luke 20. When someone has been given goodness, the name of God, mercy compassion much is going to be required in return. When someone has been entrusted with much and encounter with God even more will be required. And will we see God’s strategy for experiencing and receiving him in order to give him the Bible gives us one condition to encounter God.

And sometimes we oversimplify. As Christians. And we think we have to do a, B, C, D E F T in order to have any hope to be in the presence of God. The only condition is that you and I would seek Saint Kim St. Kiss presence. Matthew 6 33 says, but seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these other things will be given to you as well.

And so we are called to seek the presence of God. When Jesus was walking on earth, every time he talked about the kingdom, he said, the kingdom is at hand, meaning the kingdom is standing right in front of you from Genesis one all the way through the back of the Bible. God has been pursuing his presence into your life and you to be living in his presence.

And as I testified earlier, there’s great and good things that we can be seeking, but God means business about first. It says seek first, not second, not third, not 12, but Siki first my presence, my righteousness. That’s goodness. That’s his name? That’s compassion. That’s mercy. And all these other things will be added unto you, will you and I laid down our need for material blessings, financial blessings, education, different things in order to pursue first and foremost, the presence of God first means first.

And he does not want to be second or third, but he wants to be first. What we seek him first. God has promised as he promised Matthew a I’m sorry. God promised Moses, the Lord replied, my presence will go with you and I will give you rest. Now that’s another sermon in and of itself, but I want you to see the quality, the characteristic of when a person is encountering God, there is a characteristic of rest and their life all hell could be breaking loose financially or with their hands.

But they are at peace knowing that God, they are, they are living in God’s favor. They are living a life. That’s being generously blessed by a cheerful giver of all mighty God. But look at this out of the gospel, then Jesus said, come to me, all you who are weary and heavy burden. And I will give you.

Sometimes we read a passage like that, and we think it’s just about salvation. Come give your heart to Jesus, take Jesus only for salvation, and you will have rest and you won’t have to pursue good works for God. As far as south working out your salvation, you will be given the gift of eternal life. And so then we leave this verse and we go off into a broken and hurt world of suffering and we’re living.

We’re living as orphans. That’s been abandoned by God. And that is a tragedy. I lived the first two decades of my Christian walk with the Lord acting as if God was in heaven. And I was here in a broken world that had to work, work, work, work, work in order to try to appease the almighty God. And yet now for the last two years, I have saw.

To passionately pursue the presence of God first and foremost. And it has become characterized with rest. I’m telling you this changes everything. It changes how we perceive. Do we pray in order to passionately pursue the presence of God. It changes how we date in our relationships, our marriages, our purpose for living.

The reason that we have air in our lungs, when we wake up each and every morning, the mission for our life, how we deal with sin, our identity in Christ, our generosity God’s resources through us and to a needy world. How we manage our time, how we work, our job, how we operate our business, how we study the Bible.

Do you study the Bible to pursue the presence of God? To hear the voice of guy saying, teach me your ways? Oh God, how we. Work in our family and how we worship, how we conduct our ministry and, and seek to, um, to make Christ known on the earth. And so I’m going to ask you, will you, if you haven’t already, will you make it the purpose of your life to passionately pursue the presence of God and everything of your life first and foremost, will you passionately pursue?

The presence of God. And so we’re here at this PDF and I’m going to just play some quiet music. We’re going to wrap up in just a few minutes, but right now, before you leave, please don’t leave without doing this. Take the PDF, or just take a blank sheet of paper. It’s simple. Just draw out two boxes of a cross and the first cross, let the holy spirit bring to mind.

I’m going to pray at the end of this, but I’m praying right now that the holy spirit would bring to mind things that you’ve been seeking after you can, there’s nothing wrong with seeking financial provision for your family. Maybe it’s a material thing that you’re a gift from God that you want more than the giver himself right down on the cross.

The things that the holy spirit brings to mind that you’ve been seeking after and. And then in the second cross, draw a second cross the box there. And I want you to just write the presence of God. Just write the presence of God. And make a commitment with me to passionately pursue the presence of guns

and the first cross, just write the things. The holy spirit brings to mind that. You’ve been seeking after that. Haven’t been the presence of God at any given time. There could be three, maybe four, maybe 28, the numbers, not the matter, this isn’t to condemn you. It’s not to judge you. This is to clarify in front of you that God has sent his greatest gift to you.

There’s going to be his presence. Will we seek. Instead of the gifts. Will we passionately pursue his presence when we wake up tomorrow morning, where we say, Lord, teach me your way. Let me encounter your presence. Sometimes pastors, it’s easy to need to write a sermon. And we can go for trying to write a sermon instead of going into the presence of God.

And I assure you, and I remind myself if we’re in the presence of God, we’ll have no lack for sum and material. We’ll have no lack for anointing for healing will have no lack for wisdom for parenting, but it comes from being in his presence. I used to desire and need and begged God for the power. Beg God for the peace of God, but I wasn’t pursuing the presence of God.

And so in one cross you have many things that maybe the holy Spirit’s brought to me. And on the second cross there’s, there should only be one thing. And that is a commitment to passionately pursue the presence of God. Let’s pray together. I’m going to invite you to lift your hands up before the Lord. I know on this call on Facebook, on YouTube, there are many people that are in desperate need of comfort of the resources of God, of the provide the provisions of.

And I promise you on the authority of his word, if we will seek him, seek him first, the presence of God and his righteousness, all these other things will be added. Let me pray. Heavenly father. I thank you for my brothers and sisters in Christ. I thank you for everyone. That’s on zoom, Facebook, YouTube, and I pray in the name of Jesus that you administer to every need that you would pour out your spirit upon them, that they would be confronted and in.

Empowered with a sense of your presence and their life father. I pray that they would make a commitment each and every one of us before you right now, make a commitment that from this day forward, we will passionately pursue your presence in our prayer and our worship and our Bible study with our finances.
