In creation, God set multiply into action:
Genesis 1:27-30 (NLT)
So God created human beings in his own image.
In the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”
Then God said, “Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—everything that has life.” And that is what happened.
God created us and said now go multiply.
God created seeds with the destiny and purpose built into them to multiply.
God has never stopped instructing us to multiply.
“Multiply” is not an option. You might think Adam and Eve’s sin and fall in the garden disrupted God’s plan to multiply but it doesn’t.
In Genesis 12 God speaks multiply over Abraham:
Genesis 12:1-3 (NLT)
The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”
God told our great great great great great grandfather, Abraham, “I will bless you and make you a blessing” All the families on earth will be blessed through you”.
Multiply is your spiritual legacy of your family. Multiply has passed down to you.
When Jesus was baptized the Holy Spirit came upon him.
- He called 12 disciples, that’s multiply.
- He turned water into wine, that’s multiply.
- He fed the multitude, that’s multiply.
He told the disciples, it is for your good that I go away because the Father will give you the Holy Spirit, that’s multiplication.
After he rose from the grave he told them:
Acts of the Apostles 1:8 (NLT)
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
That’s multiply.
One chapter later we read:
Acts of the Apostles 2:2-4 (NLT)
Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
That’s multiply.
Multiply is found all throughout Jesus’ teachings:
Matthew 24:14 NLT
And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.
That’s multiply.
In Matthew 25 the stewards were blessed for their multiplication.
That’s multiply.
